Member of the Month: Jennifer Jones
Meet Jennifer! She has been part of the Lotus Family since the beginning of this year!
Jennifer has one of those smiles that lights up a room, and she does so, so easily because she has a beautiful soul that shines not only through her smile, but also her eyes and presence. We like that she’s wearing her “GOOD VIBES ONLY” tank in this picture, because good vibes is what she brings to Lotus.
Thanks for being part of The Lotus Family and for all the love and energy you share with us.
Why did you first try Lotus?
The simple hope to improve my health, and find new strength, are the reasons why I chose to try Lotus. I was born with a life-threatening disease called Cystic Fibrosis (CF for short), and I’ve lost 45% of my lung function as a result of the damage the disease has done to my lungs over the years. I’ve always been very aware of what the disease is capable of doing to my body, but it’s only ever inspired me more to try and beat the odds. Exercising pushes air into my lungs, and actually helps my body to breathe easier. Strangely enough, I was initially drawn to the studio by its name alone. The lotus flower is often found growing from the murky darkness at the bottom of ponds, but emerging pure and clean. The plant’s stalk is easy to bend in two, but it is very hard to break - resilient in its own unique way. When I think of the lotus flower, I imagine perseverance. Maybe I took it as a sign that this is the place that is going to help me overcome my own personal obstacles, to grow, and eventually bloom.
What do you love about Lotus?
I love every class at the studio, they’re all so fun! I’m more of a yoga girl at heart - my green yoga mat is where I go to breathe deeply, meditate, be thankful, and find balance. However, I’m also addicted to the pole classes because I love the challenge. I’m determined to climb all the way up to the top of that pole! I admire the instructors for having such passion for their craft, and sharing that passion with each student. The studio itself is an intimate setting that I always enjoy coming to because of how friendly all of the members and instructors are. There’s an unspoken camaraderie amongst everyone, and I oftentimes feel as though we’re all silently cheering for one another to succeed!
What are your fitness goals?
More than anything, what motivates me is keeping my focus on how my body feels, rather than how it looks. I want to find out what my body is capable of accomplishing.
What wisdom can you share with other Lotus students?
My mom taught me to “never say can’t, because can’t never could.” Also, I believe it is important to be patient in everything you do in life - remember the turtle that won the race? You may not accomplish your fitness goals right away, but that’s okay. With patience, you will get there. Be thankful and believe that you’re capable of accomplishing your goals!
In the words of Marilyn Grey, “Life is not a dress rehearsal. Stop practicing what you’re going to do and just go do it. In one bold stroke, you can transform today.”
